Moose On The Loose Spotted Again In Belmont

BELMONT (CBS) -- A moose that became a minor social media celebrity after it was seen running through the streets of Watertown and Belmont was spotted again Friday, authorities said.

Police are looking for the loose moose in the area of Juniper Road in Belmont, where it was spotted earlier on Friday, officials tell WBZ-TV.

Five Massachusetts Environmental Police officers are actively pursuing the moose.

The first reports of a moose sighting near Boston this week came from the Prospect Hill area of Waltham on Sunday.

Then on Wednesday morning, Watertown police officers chased after the moose as it ran down Waverly Avenue. Video of their encounter has been viewed almost 440,000 times on Facebook.

The moose was followed into Belmont and also filmed by police there.

The moose saga has even spawned the creation of a Twitter account, on which someone is chronicling the animal's adventures @TheBelmontMoose.

Environmental police said earlier on Friday that the moose was spotted in Lexington, but officials have since clarified that they made a mistake.
