Boston Globe Seeks New Home For 4-Ton Marble Map Of New England
BOSTON (CBS) – The owners of the Boston Globe are seeking a new home for the massive marble map of New England that has been a staple of the newspaper's headquarters for 40 years.
The 4-ton map is a fixture of the Boston Globe's Morrissey Boulevard offices. The map stands about two stories tall.
Early in 2017 the Boston Globe offices will move to State Street and printing operations will be shifted to Taunton.
Boston Globe Media Partners CEO Mike Sheehan told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 that the newspaper is now hoping to find a new home for the map.
"We'd certainly like whatever we're not taking with us to be available to the public to see because it's of great value," said Sheehan.
Since the Globe's Morrissey Blvd. headquarters has not yet been sold, Sheehan said there is time to find a home for it.
But the CEO knows finding the right fit will not be easy.
"Given the size of it, the scope of it, the weight of it and the need to display it in a public place, I don't think that's an unlimited field that's going to call," said Sheehan.
