Keller @ Large: What I've Learned From You

BOSTON (CBS) - Believe it or not, this week marks my 30th year with WBZ NewsRadio 1030, and 21 years since I started these daily chats.

And yes, in case, you're wondering, I was 15 when I started.

It's been a great run, and I'd like to share a few thoughts on what I've learned so far.

First, I've learned that people really do have a unique relationship with the radio, WBZ Radio in particular.

TV can sometimes be background music, and music on the radio certainly is. But our listeners really listen, and have never been shy about correcting me when I bungle facts or grammar.

Plus, I'd be a very wealthy man if I had five bucks for every time I've ordered my iced coffee at Dunkin' Donuts and had someone next to me in line turn around and say hey, I recognize that voice.

Thank you to everyone for hiding your disappointment at meeting me in person.

Also, I've learned that many parents and kids listen to BZ radio together, in the car heading to school or running errands, or in the kitchen at home. Some of the strongest reaction I've ever gotten has been when I bring up topics related to children and families.

And no surprise, there's nothing you care about more.

And finally, I've learned that no one is more opinionated than BZ listeners.

And that makes doing this job really worthwhile, even when, as often happens, I get sick of hearing my own opinions.
