Jimmy Vesey Says Bruins Will Be On His 'List Of Teams' As Free Agent

BOSTON (CBS) -- Reigning Hobey Baker Award winner Jimmy Vesey still isn't close to committing to an NHL team - he doesn't even become a free agent until August 15 - but he also is far from ruling the Boston Bruins out as a potential suitor.

"I think the Bruins will definitely be on my list of teams," Vesey told the Boston Herald. The 22-year-old winger remains the property of the Nashville Predators, who drafted the Harvard product 66th overall in 2012. NHL rules dictate that Vesey can become an unrestricted free agent on August 15 due to completing four years at Harvard, where he will graduate later this month with a degree in government, since being drafted.

Vesey, born in Charlestown and raised in North Reading, acknowledged that his Mass. roots and lifelong Bruins fandom would at least hold his attention in negotiations, if not give Boston a decided advantage.

"I think it's any kid's dream to play for his hometown team," said Vesey. "I'm definitely going to want to hear what they have to say."
