Felger: 'Not Surprised' At David Price's Poor Start With Red Sox

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox's $217 million ace has not pitched like one so far in 2016. David Price struggled again on Saturday at Yankee Stadium, allowing six earned runs on seven hits and three walks in just 4 2/3 innings, and looks far from the guy who signed the richest contract in history for a pitcher.

But ask Michael Felger about Price, and he'll tell you he was expecting a start like this. "I'm not surprised. ... This is what happens when you sign 30-year-old pitchers to record-setting contracts," Felger said on Price, referencing the slow starts for other pitchers who just signed big-money deals with new teams, like Zack Greinke in Arizona.

Later, they looked at Price's dealings with the Red Sox media so far in 2016. Price seems to care a lot about being liked and being gracious with those who talk to him after games. Felger & Mazz believe the talking is becoming too much. When you're giving lengthy, thoughtful answers to a writer with the reputation of Dan Shaughnessy from the Boston Globe and actively fueling his inevitably cynical columns, they might be on to something.

"When Dan Shaughnessy walks up to [Price] the day after a bad start, he talks to him! He answers his questions!" Felger exclaimed. "When you hear [Shaughnessy's voice], you run. You turn around. You go to the showers. He's engaging Shaughnessy!"

Mazz thinks the best thing for Price to do is to say nothing to anyone and just figure out how to pitch better. Listen to the full podcast below:
