WAREHAM (CBS) — A driver was hurt and the car they were travelling in was destroyed following a fiery rollover crash off Interstate 495 in Wareham early Sunday evening.

Massachusetts State Police say the crash happened on I-495 South near the Interstate 195 West ramp around 5 p.m. Witnesses told police the Audi A4 was travelling erratically at a high rate of speed.

The car was completely engulfed by flames when troopers and Wareham police and firefighters arrived at the scene. It was later towed to a Wareham auto salvage yard.

Investigators shut down the ramp to allow a medical helicopter to land on the highway, and the driver was flown to Rhode Island Hospital after suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. It’s unclear if the driver will be facing charges.

No additional information was immediately available.
