Keller @ Large: Sen. Tom McGee On 'Robust Primary Season'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party Sen. Tom McGee said that he thought a "robust primary season" had strengthened both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

"I do believe that, because of the intensity of the debate season and the primaries, it really has strengthened both of those candidates," said McGee.

McGee sat down with WBZ political analyst Jon Keller to discuss the primary season, the upcoming Democratic National Convention, and local issues. McGee said he expects his party to unify behind their message in November, and contrasted it with the Republican message.

"The issues that we've talked about as Democrats, not the issues that have really dominated the Republican side, which are character attacks and no real discussion about what our vision for a better future is ... [are] going to bring us together when we look toward November."

Keller asked McGee about Congressman Seth Moulton's recent comments criticizing the Obama administration on "failed policy in Iraq," which followed the loss of his friend in the Iraqi army to ISIS.

"He's clearly had an indication of what's going on on the ground there," said McGee. "But they're complicated issues. And I think whether it be ISIS in Iraq and Syria, what's happening in the Middle East, it really is a very complicated situation...it's a challenging situation regardless of who's making those decisions."

Keller and McGee also talked about the Green Line extension project following Cambridge and Somerville's proposal to put millions of dollars into the project themselves, and a potential endorsement from Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
