Sunshine, Warmer Temps Return After Mother's Day

BOSTON (CBS) -- Enough already!

OK everyone, it's time to move this rain/drizzle/cloudiness out of here. We've paid our dues this week, and Mother Nature agrees that we did. Sun and warm temps return next week. Yay!

We still have to get through Sunday afternoon. Mother's Day won't be ideal, but it will be a 50-50 kind of day. First half will be rainy, while the second half we'll at least get some sun.

MOTHER'S DAY SUNDAY

The day begins just like the last few, clouds, drizzle, fog and chilly temps. Spotty showers may develop. The heaviest rain remains to our west.

As the morning progresses, and we get a south wind, temps will rise to the mid and upper 50s. Rain moves into Worcester County.

Take the umbrella with you as you take mom to lunch. The rain arrives in Boston by noon, and could be heavy at times.

The rain ahead of the cold front moves out by late afternoon. At 4 p.m. some lingering showers may be a nuisance for any plans you have. But it won't last long. The sky clears from west to east all evening. Those areas that see the late day sun in western & central Massachusetts, could reach the lower 60s. A gusty west wind kicks in after the rain.

THIS WEEK

Monday will be breezy, with sunshine finally! Temps right around the average high of 63. There is a slim chance for a sprinkle or shower in the afternoon (especially north of the Massachusetts Turnpike) thanks to a shortwave.

Tuesday through Thursday look great. Warming up day by day until we get near 80 Thursday. Enjoy the sun and warmth!

Break out the shades and shorts, New England: spring is back!
