'Supergirl' Star To Portray Boston Marathon Bomber's Wife In Movie

BOSTON (CBS) – The star of "Supergirl" on CBS is joining the cast of an upcoming movie about the Boston Marathon bombing.

Melissa Benoist will portray Katherine Russell, the wife of bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in "Patriots Day." He was killed in the manhunt following the deadly attacks, and questions were raised during the trial of his brother, Dzhokhar, about how much Russell knew of their plans.

The news was first reported by Deadline, which also revealed that actor Jake Picking will portray MIT police officer Sean Collier.

Collier was shot to death by the bombers in the aftermath of the attacks.

Benoist and Picking join a star-studded cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and J.K. Simmons.

"Patriots Day" is expected to be released in theaters starting in December.
