Two Teens Arrested After Stolen Car Hits Vehicles On Storrow Drive

BOSTON (CBS) – Two teenagers ran into the Charles River after crashing on Storrow Drive in what police say was a stolen car.

Around 11:30 a.m., a Massachusetts State Police trooper was patrolling Storrow Drive when he saw a 2008 Hyunsai Elantra that had been reported stolen earlier Friday morning.

The trooper activated his lights and tried to stop the vehicle. Instead, police say the driver tried to evade the trooper.

After a pursuit that lasted about 10 seconds, the car crashed into several other vehicles.

State Police say the 17-year-old male driver and his 17-year-old male passenger jumped out of the car and ran into the Charles River.

Troopers convinced the suspects to walk out of the river and they were arrested.

Neither teenager was identified because they are juveniles.

The driver was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, use of a motor vehicle without authority and failure to stop for police.

The passenger was charged with receiving stolen property.

One person suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital.
