NH Mother Accused Of Photoshopping Toddler's Injuries To Solicit Donations

MERRIMACK, N.H. (CBS) -- A New Hampshire mother is under arrest after allegedly doctoring photos of her 3-year-old son to solicit donations online.

Taylor Tibetts, 20, of Merrimack, filed a police report in November 2015 stating that her 3-year-old son had been abused by his father. Shortly after, she set up a GoFundMe page with pictures of her son and his apparent injuries.

According to police, the page said part of the money was going to be used for legal fees so she could get full custody of her son.

Police found that the photos of the boy posted on the fundraising page had been photoshopped.

Tibbetts turned herself into police on Sunday and was charged with filing a false report.

Tibbetts was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 24th.

Bobby Whithorne, a spokesperson for GoFundMe, said they assisted police and quickly shut down the account.

"There are unfortunate instances where people create campaigns with the intention to take advantage of others' generosity," Whithorne said. "In the rare cases where fraud occurs, GoFundMe takes swift action to resolve the issue."

Whithorne says the total amount raised by Tibbetts was $10.
