Sports Final: Changes Coming To Boston Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) -- The season is over for the Bruins, and changes are coming at Causeway Street.

Boston lost 6-1 in their regular season finale at home on Sunday, finishing the season 3-8-1 down the stretch to miss the playoffs for a second straight season. Another collapse like that will no doubt claim some casualties throughout the offseason, and it appears the first victim will be head coach Claude Julien.

Bruins radio analyst Bob Beers joined Steve Burton on WBZ-TV's Sports Final on Sunday night, and said the winningest coach in franchise history will be the fall guy for Boston's disappointing 2015-16 season.

"Unfortunately somebody is going to be the fall guy and [Julien is] going to be the guy. I hate to say that because he's been nothing but class, great to deal with on an everyday basis. But at some point after nine years, you start to turn the page and move forward. I think that's what's going to happen," said Beers.

But that is just one of many changes to expect with the Bruins, and Beers expects a different style of hockey when Boston takes the ice for next season.

"I think a change to the way they want to play. It has to start on defense. You have to make some significant changes; guys who can move the puck, younger guys," said Beers. "You have to change the way you play, and that's what they'll look to do.

"It's more, overall, the type of team you want to put out there. That's what they need to concentrate on right now," he continued. "Which direction is the league going? Get guys who can move the puck and get some speed in your game."
