Dashboard Cam Shows Upton Alleged Drunk Driver On Wrong Side Of Road

UPTON (CBS) – Video from a police cruiser's dashboard shows a driver on the wrong side of the road on School Street just before being pulled over and charged with drunk driving.

Upton Police posted the video on Twitter. According to the dashboard camera, the traffic stop came just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

26-year-old Christian Cugini of Hopedale was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence.

"It shows the dangers of drinking and driving," said Upton Police Chief Michael Bradley. "We're fortunate that that officer was able to make that stop."

Bradley said the officer pulled Cugini over just seconds before a potential head-on crash.

"You can see that there's another vehicle that comes in the opposite direction after he has him pulled over," he told WBZ.

Cugini's case was the second of three drunk driving arrests the department made this week.

Police were called to another OUI crash later Saturday morning a few miles away on Hartford Avenue.

Investigators say 23-year-old Milford resident Cameron MacKenzie drove his car on a homeowner's front lawn and traveled down an embankment.

"Its terrifying," says 22-year-old Brooke Lavallee, who lives and grew up inside the house of the yard where the car landed.

She was not home at the time, but her mother was. No one was hurt during the incident.

"Who knows what could've happened if he hit something or someone," Lavallee says.
