Concern For Celtics After Evan Turner Suffers Eye Injury
BOSTON (CBS) -- Just when it looked like Brad Stevens had his full roster to work with, the Celtics have suffered what could be a costly injury.
Evan Turner, who has been a huge spark for Boston all season, suffered a left eye injury in the closing seconds of Boston's 107-100 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. He will be reevaluated on Monday.
Turner was inadvertently poked in the eye by L.A. big man Julius Randle while battling for a rebound under the basket. He immediately grabbed the left side of his face and ran to the Boston locker room. Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said Turner suffered bleeding in the eye, but did not know the extent of the injury.
"They're looking at it; an internist is looking at him. We don't know the extent of the injury but, clearly, he got some eye poke," said Stevens. "Hopefully, not too much trauma."
Several reporters Tweeted that Turner had his left eye shut and there was a notable redness around it when he walked through the Boston locker room after the game.
Losing Turner for any amount of time would be a big loss for the Celtics, who clinched a playoff spot with their win in L.A. but are still battling for seeding in the Eastern Conference. Turner has been one of their best two-way players throughout the year, averaging 10.5 points per game on 46 percent shooting to go with 4.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per contest.
