Mass. Residents Have A Few Extra Days To File Taxes

BOSTON (AP) — Taxpayers in Massachusetts will have a few extra days this year to file their returns.

The IRS says the nationwide deadline for filing federal tax returns has been moved to Monday, April 18, because Emancipation Day will be observed Friday, April 15. Emancipation Day is a recognized holiday in the District of Columbia.

But taxpayers in the Bay State will have until April 19 to file both their federal and state returns since April 18 is Patriots Day in Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue has announced the start of a two-month tax amnesty period. Individuals and businesses owing back taxes can pay off their debts during this period without incurring penalties.

The amnesty program runs through May 31.
