BILLERICA (CBS) – The head and hands of a Virgin Mary statue outside a Billerica church were removed, leading police to look for possible connections to similar recent incidents.

A maintenance worker told police that the head and hands had been removed from the Virgin Mary statue sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.READ MORE: Stoneham Police Officer Needs 30 Stitches To Face And Head After Being Attacked By Dog
On Tuesday, Burlington Police began an investigation after three statues were vandalized in a similar fashion.

“We are actively investigating this disturbing crime and will continue to do so until we find those responsible,” Police Chief Daniel Rosa said. “If you have seen anything suspicious around this church or any other religious institution, contact police immediately.”
