The Lyndeborough Fire Department said it was a tragic day.

"Today we lost a firefighter, friend, and a family member due to a freak accident," Lyndeborough Fire Chief Brian Smith said.

"He was a 32 year old, with 8 years of service. He was the type of guy that would do anything for anyone; he would always have stories to tell and got along with everyone he met. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, family and friends."

The man was the only person in the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Students at a nearby school were held in the building until the accident was cleared.
