Last Easter Mass For Scituate Church?

SCITUATE (CBS) -- The families gathered as they always have at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection and have children take part in an Easter egg hunt.

But it might be the last, if parishioners--who have been keeping vigil for over eleven years--don't get their way with the Supreme Court.

The Archdiocese of Boston wants the church to remain closed. The parishioners want the U.S. Supreme Court to settle the dispute.

The church was closed in 2004 as part of a reorganization following the clergy sex-abuse scandal.

One man, who has been attending St. Frances for 20 years, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal that it was a shame the two sides could not compromise.

"It's a tradition that should live on," he said. "It's just a shame that the Catholic church took their position, and we took our position, and it's too bad we couldn't come to an agreement."

In a statement, the archdiocese said it will allow the legal process to play out.
