Experts To Update Berkshire Residents On Plans To Eradicate Invasive Vine

LENOX, Mass. (AP) — Officials in the Berkshires are set to update residents on efforts to eradicate the invasive kiwi vine from the region.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that local officials and environmental specialists plan to update the public on Tuesday on strategies to remove the voracious ornamental vine.

The vine damages woodlands by climbing to a height up to 20 feet, then crowding out and eventually taking down and destroying the tree canopy. Experts think it was introduced to the region as decorative plant nearly a century ago.

The groups leading the eradication effort are seeking volunteers to help remove the plants and to offer tips on identifying them. The plants are located on public and private properties.

The meeting is being held at the Lenox Library.
