Boston Fire Department Marks Two Years Since Death Of Two Firefighters
BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Fire Department asked people to pause on Saturday afternoon and remember two firefighters who lost their lives two years ago while fighting a 9-alarm Back Bay fire.
Lt. Ed Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy were killed on March 26, 2014, when they became trapped in the basement of a Beacon Street brownstone as flames ripped through the building.
On Saturday, the Boston Fire Department shared a photo of the plaques that honor the firefighters.
Lt. Walsh, of West Roxbury, was married and a father of three young children. He had been with the Boston Fire Department for nine and a half years.
Firefighter Kennedy, of Hyde Park, is a Marine veteran and had been with the Boston Fire Department for six years.
Two reports released earlier this month claim that a lack of training for wind-swept fires and failure to judge the risks were major factors in the tragedy.
