Report: Bruins To Pursue Providence College Forward Brandon Tanev

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins may rank third in the NHL in goals scored per game, but there's always room for improvement. And according to a report, they may be looking to a Providence College senior for that help.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Bruins are a "pursuer" of PC's Brandon Tanev.

The 24-year-old has 15 goals and 13 assists in 38 games this season for the Friars, a year after scoring the national championship-winning goal against BU last April. The 6-foot, 170-pound left winger has 35-42-77 totals in 148 collegiate games.

The Bruins know Tanev well, as he attended the team's development camp roster last July as a free agent. Tanev's former teammate at PC, Noel Acciari, has been playing for the Bruins this season and could serve as a unique lure for the Bruins to sign the soon-to-be-available player.

If the Bruins are to aggressively pursue Tanev, it could happen fast. Providence College plays Friday afternoon in the single-elimination national tournament, meaning Tanev could become available to go pro as soon as this weekend. If, however, the Friars go on another prolonged tournament run, the process could get pushed back as far as April 9, the night of the national championship.
