Family Of Barnstable Police Officer Involved In Hit-And-Run

BOSTON (CBS) -- The family of a Barnstable Police Officer is lucky they weren't seriously hurt after being hit by an alleged drunk driver Tuesday evening.

Police declined to release the name of the police officer, or his family.

They did, however, say the woman and her three children were turning onto their street in Centerville, when they were struck by Matt Cuccia, who lived nearby.

"The kids were obviously shaken up as was the mother," says Maureen Kelley, a resident of the house where the accident took place. "So police arrived and evidently the guy who was in the other car that hit them ran."

Police found Cuccia a short time later at his mother's home.

The family of the police officer was not seriously hurt and the officer was not on duty, so he did not receive the call from dispatch. Rather, his 11-year-old son called him from the scene.

Cuccia was held on $2,000 cash bail.
