Officer Shoots Suspect After Being Stabbed At Dunkin' Donuts In South Hadley, Police Say

SOUTH HADLEY (CBS) -- A suspect was shot after stabbing a police officer Friday night at Dunkin' Donuts in South Hadley, police say.

The officer was called to the coffee shop on Newton Street around 6 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance, according to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

An armed male confronted the officer, and he responded by shooting his gun three times, hitting the male twice, investigators say.

During the confrontation, the officer was stabbed in the neck.

Both the police officer and suspect were rushed to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. The extent of their injuries and current condition are unknown.

South Hadley Police and State Police are investigating at the scene.

In a statement released late Friday night, Dunkin' Dunkins says they are aware of the domestic disturbance incident.

"The safety and well-being of franchisees' crew members and customers are a top priority," reads the statement. "The franchisee is cooperating fully with the local police investigating this incident."

No additional information was immediately available.
