Bruins Recall Frank Vatrano On Emergency Basis For West Coast Trip

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins are riding a bit of a hot streak, and now they're adding the hottest player from the AHL.

The team recalled Frank Vatrano from Providence on Monday on an emergency basis ahead of the team's three-city West Coast swing this week.

There's no known injury on the current NHL roster that might have necessitated the move, so Vatrano's call-up could be precautionary in case anyone suffers any injury while the team is 3,000 miles from home.

Vatrano is the AHL's leading goal scorer, having potted 31 goals in 31 games. He also has 15 helpers and was named AHL player of the week at the beginning of the month. The Massachusetts native played 30 NHL games for the Bruins this year, recording six goals and one assist.

The Bruins play Tuesday night in San Jose, followed by a Friday night matchup in Anaheim and a Saturday night tilt in Los Angeles. They are 5-0-2 in the month of March.
