State Police Trooper Injured During Rescue In Lexington

LEXINGTON (CBS) – A driver was rescued from the Cambridge Reservoir in Lexington Thursday night.

A 50-year-old Bridgewater man driving a 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup truck crashed through a guardrail and flipped over into the water around 8:12 p.m. It happened on the ramp from Route 2 to Interstate 95 South.

He called police, saying he was trapped inside his truck. The unidentified driver was pulled from the truck and taken to Lahey Clinic after suffering minor injuries.

A State Police trooper was also hurt when a tree fell and struck him in the head while trying to help the driver.

The trooper, who suffered a concussion and non-life-threatening injuries, police say, has not been identified yet. He is expected to miss several days of work while he recovers, police said.

The truck was towed from the scene, and the ramp was reopened by 10:30 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation by police. Police haven't determined if they will bring charges against the driver.
