Select Corona Extra Bottles Recalled; Beer May Contain Small Glass Pieces

CHICAGO (CBS) – Before sipping your next Corona Extra, check the bottle – some may contain small pieces of glass.

Constellation Brands, which owns Corona in the U.S., has announced a limited recall of  Corona Extra 12-packs and 18-packs nationwide. The bottles being recalled "may contain small particles of glass," the company says, blaming the problem on a third-party supplier's defective bottles.

The recall only affects about one in every 5,000 bottles, Constellation estimates. There have been no reports of injuries associated with the problem.

Corona Extra drinkers can check if their bottles are being recalled by looking for codes printed on the side of cardboard boxes the beer comes in, or the necks of the bottles.

A similar problem led to a recall in 2014.

"We take the safety of our consumers and the integrity of our beer products very seriously and we're committed to doing all we can, working with our suppliers, to ensure this does not happen again," a statement on Corona's website reads.

Anyone who has the recalled product should not drink from the bottles and should call (866) 204-9407 to receive a refund.
