BC Hoops Senior's Best Career Memory Is 'Going Out To Eat'

BOSTON (CBS) – It's been a rough stretch for the Boston College men's basketball team. So center Dennis Clifford could be forgiven for struggling to come up with a high point of his time on the floor with the Eagles.

On Tuesday, Boston College fell in the ACC Tournament to Florida State, bringing an end to a season that saw the Eagles go 7-25 with a record-setting 0-19 record in conference play.

After the game, Clifford was asked what his best memory of playing college basketball will be.

Clifford took a long pause, began to tear up, and offered up a short answer.

"Probably just… (pause) Going out to eat," Clifford replied through tears before dropping his head.

The senior from Bridgewater was referencing the comradery he had with his teammates.

But the clip gained viral attention with people around the country saying it highlighted the misery of Boston College's season.

Despite the jokes lobbed his way, Clifford has nothing to be ashamed of.

During his final season at Chestnut Hill, the Milton Academy graduate averaged nearly 10 points per game and averaged 7 rebounds per contest.

Last week the fifth-year senior was given the school's Frank Power Award, which is given to the men's basketball player who "exemplifies the dedication, loyalty, spirit and love for Boston College and its basketball program."

Head coach Jim Christian praised Clifford after the loss to Florida State for his achievements at the school.

"I don't care if we lost 1,000 games. You watch the reaction of Dennis Clifford," Christian said. "I don't know if he's going down as one of the best players to play at Boston College. But if you line them up, all the great players and look at what he's done and look at the way he's represented himself and this school, I couldn't be prouder of a human being."
