Hot Plate Burns Container, Prompting Hazmat Investigation At Boston Children's Hospital
BOSTON (CBS) -- A hot plate burned a plastic container, prompting a hazmat investigation at Boston Children's Hospital on Monday night, fire officials say.
The incident happened around 9 p.m. in a 10th-floor laboratory at the 16-story hospital on Longwood Avenue, according to the Boston Fire Department Twitter account.
There initially was a Tier 3 hazmat response, which is a long-term operation with a full team for a large release, according to the Hazardous Materials Response Teams website. However, it was downgraded to a Tier 1 response around 9:45 p.m.
No one was hurt, but four-to-five workers were evacuated as a precaution after the melted container caused a haze in the room, officials say.
The scene was cleared around 10 p.m.
