Cleanup Effort Begins At Vandalized Fort Revere Park In Hull
HULL (CBS) -- State workers began cleaning graffiti off of historic Fort Revere Park Monday in Hull after it was vandalized over the weekend.
Even though the town owns most of the park, the state's Department of Conservation and Recreation helps to maintain it. DCR employees could be seen painting over the vulgar phrases and images painted onto the walls of the fort.
Visitors to the site are frustrated after much of the site was "tagged" by spray-paint.
"It's a bit disrespectful to the history of this place," Laszlo Berris told WBZ-TV. "Actually what angers me more is if you look down (and see) all the trash that's left behind."
George Sylvester grew up near the park, and on Monday he was showing his new wife the fort and he had a suggestion: "Throw some big, good security cameras up in this place high enough that they (capture vandalism)...and everybody knows everybody in this town (and) you've got them kids."
One woman said, "(It's) definitely sad people treat a part of history like this.
No arrests have been made.
