Daily Talker: Millbury Man Taking Heat For Fixing Pothole

A local man is in a "hole" lot of trouble after fixing a pothole in his town. Thomas Perry was moved to pave a pothole in Millbury after a Milton teacher was killed earlier this month in Boston from a flying manhole cover. Perry patched it Sunday and got a quick response from town officials who told him to knock it off. They see Perry's fix as an unauthorized repair on public property using something other than the DPW's preferred hot asphalt method. Perry is a sales manager at Paving and Maintenance, Inc., a company that sells pothole patch material. The Millbury town manager, Bob Spain, believes Perry's real goal was to sell his product. Spain told WBZ, "If I have a hole in the middle of my driveway, you don't have a right to come in and fix it, even if you're doing me a favor." He added, "We like Good Samaritans and all that. Instead of filling it, tell us where it is and we'll do it." Some residents agree with town officials, while others are just happy the pothole is filled.
