Woman Dies, 2 Rescued From Fitchburg House Fire

FITCHBURG (CBS) – One woman was found dead, but her sister and brother were rescued from a burning house in Fitchburg early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said there were heavy flames coming out of two windows on the second floor when they arrived at the two-family home on Walton Street around midnight.

"It was just chaos right from the start," said Deputy Fire Chief Dave Gravel.

One man was found on the second floor at the top of the stairs.

"The first victim that we pulled out, he was conscious when we got him outside. The second victim, the guys did CPR," Fitchburg Fire Chief Kevin D. Roy told reporters.

That second victim, the man's sister, was found near a second-floor window.

"They believe she was trying to get to one of the windows and she must have collapsed at the window. That's where they found her," Gravel said.

Both were rushed to local hospitals. There is no word yet on their conditions.

A woman who was a sister of the two other victims died.

The victims' names have not been made public.  Investigators said all three were in their 60's.

It's not clear yet how the fire started.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
