Traffic Delays Voters At Merrimack, NH Primary Location

MERRIMACK, N.H. (CBS) – Voters faced long lines of traffic as they headed to the polls in one New Hampshire town during the final hours of the state's presidential primary.

A long line of cars was still waiting to pull in to Merrimack High School at 7 p.m. with less than an hour to go until polls closed.

Merrimack Police said polls closed right around the scheduled time of 8 p.m. Anyone who was in line on the highway had a chance to get in and vote before doors were locked.

One woman told WBZ-TV's Katie Brace that she tried to vote three times on Tuesday, but couldn't wait the 90 minutes it would've taken to reach the ballot box.

Merrimack election officials said issue came from a traffic pattern that did not work.

In addition, a large turnout led to the delays.
