Driver Charged With Killing Nurse Training For Boston Marathon Held On Bail

BOSTON (CBS) – A driver charged with hitting and killing a Hanover woman who was running in preparation for the Boston Marathon was ordered to be held on bail during her initial court appearance.

Kathleen Vitello, 52, of Hanson is facing charges of motor vehicle manslaughter, motor vehicle homicide by operation under the influence, and reckless operation in connection with the Dec. 23 crash.

Amanda Russell, 32, of Hanover was jogging along Winter Street in Hanover when she was hit by a car police say was driven by Vitello.

During Vitello's arraignment in Plymouth District Court, a judge ordered she be held on $50,000 cash bail.

Russell, a nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, died several days after she was struck.

In preparation for this year's Boston Marathon, Russell had created a fundraising page for Team BIDMC.

Donations have continued to pour in since Russell's death. As of Friday, Russell's fundraising page has collected more than $20,000.
