"Dog owners scored higher in well-being than cat owners on all well-being measures," the study authors said.

Not only were dog owners found to be happier, they were also determined to be significantly more conscientious and less neurotic than cat owners. The study also found that people with dogs are marginally more extroverted and agreeable than those who live with cats.

Overall, pet owners were more satisfied with life than those without animals, research showed.
