Mansfield Police Find Body Of Missing Man In Mill Pond

MANSFIELD (CBS) -- What is typically a quiet, peaceful setting for Mansfield neighbors turned tragic Sunday morning, after authorities recover a body of a man in Mill Pond.

"I saw the father out there it was very sad, very sad, " neighbor Derek House said.

House lives right across the street from Mill Pond. He says he knew something was wrong when he saw all the fire and police activity in front of his house on East Street on RTE 106.

Mansfield police say on Saturday they received a call from a family who had not heard from their adult son. After an extensive search the man's body was found in icy waters. Police say the man must have fallen through the ice.

"You have to have caution. The ice is too thin. People shouldn't be on it. I don't know the circumstances behind it. It's too warm out this winter to be out there on the ice," House said.

House says Mill Pond is not easily accessible, but people do go down there to fish and skate.

"It flows quickly through there. It's a very shallow pond and there's a river way on each end so it flows very fast," House said.

The man's name has not yet been released. So far his death does not appear to be suspicious.
