2 Masked Juveniles Charged With Armed Robbery In Peabody

PEABODY (CBS) -- Two masked juveniles showed a gun before robbing another juvenile near a Peabody school on Saturday afternoon, police say.

Police officers were called to the William A. Welch Sr. Elementary School grounds on Swampscott Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. on a report of a robbery involving a gun, according to a statement released Saturday night.

A juvenile was walking on the property when the masked suspects demanded the use of his cell phone, police say. He gave them the phone, and they flashed what appeared to be a handgun before running from the area, police say.

Investigators found the suspects on Clement Avenue and they were taken into custody. They also recovered a BB gun.

The duo, who won't be identified because they are juveniles, has been charged with masked armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The suspects will be arraigned Monday in Salem Juvenile Court.

Police say there has been at least one other similar incident in Peabody that they're currently investigating.

No additional information was immediately available.
