Flooded MBTA Bus Breaks Down On I-93 South
BOSTON (CBS) -- An overheated engine caused an MBTA bus to break down on Interstate 93 in Boston Friday morning.
The bus started flooding with water, steam and smoke, according to passenger Rachel Michaud.
She told WBZ-TV it became hot and uncomfortable inside the bus, and water came rushing in from the back left side and down the stairs.
Michaud said it was a scary situation because passengers were shouting for the doors to be opened, as no one seemed to know what was going on.
The bus driver pulled over in the carpool lane, and people quickly got off the bus and onto the road, she said.
The driver emptied the bus of smoke and steam, Michaud said, but there was a green liquid pooled in the back left corner.
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo says the disabled bus was moved out of the HOV lane.
State Police had the passengers get back on the bus for safety reasons, according to Michaud. No one was hurt during the incident.
Several good Samaritans stopped and picked people up, Michaud said, and five remaining passengers were transferred to another bus around 9 a.m.
