2 Dead In Groton House Fire

GROTON (CBS) - Two people were found dead in a house fire overnight in Groton.

Firefighters were called to the single-family home on Whiley Road just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday and found it engulfed in flames.

"We had fire coming out of every window on the front side of the house," Groton Fire Chief Steele McCurdy told reporters, "so firefighters were unable to make entry due to those fire conditions."

Two adults were "unaccounted for," according to McCurdy, and both were later found dead on the first floor.

It's unclear who made the 911 call. The house is surrounded by woods with no direct neighbors in the area.

There's no word yet on a cause and firefighters don't know how long the fire had been burning before they arrived.

The victims' names have not been made public.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
