Boston Police Officer Stops Cruiser To Help Elderly Woman Shovel

BOSTON (CBS) – An elderly West Roxbury resident received help from an unexpected source as she worked to clear snow from in front of her home.

K-9 Officer John Quinn was on patrol Thursday when he saw an elderly woman having a difficult time removing a chunk of snow and ice from in front of her house.

Quinn stopped his cruiser, got out and grabbed a shovel to help the woman.

"It was the right thing to do. I saw that she needed help so I pulled over and asked her to hand me the shovel," said Quinn. "It's one of those things police officers do every day. But – bottom line – she reminded me of my mother and I only did for her what I would want someone to do for my mom."

Boston Police praised Quinn in a blog post for his assistance.

"To Officer Quinn, we say 'Job well done, John.' Thanks for making our city the special place that it is," Boston Police wrote.
