Kicking off the Great 8 is Ballo inside Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Ballo is undoubtedly one of the biggest and best Italian restaurants in all of New England. It's a 17,000 square-foot space featuring stone columns and soaring arches. Their upscale mac and cheese is just as impressive, even though it's not listed on the menu. They cart out half a wheel of Grana cheese and light it on fire tableside, then add some fresh torchio pasta, additional cheese, and some shaved black truffle.

The Vintage Grill
Worcester

Another Great 8 winner is The Vintage Grill on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester. This is mac and cheese heaven, offering several different spins. There's the Burnout sandwich, with decadent mac and cheese nestled between two thick cuts of Texas toast; an indulgent Mac N Cheese Pizza; and for true mayhem in your mouth, try the Muscle Car Mac N Cheese Bites.

Prezo Bar and Grill in Milford makes all the Italian food you love, plus some menu items, you wouldn't expect, like the super-indulgent burger loaded up with a veritable brick of mac and cheese. It's a half pound patty, layered with a thick slab of mac and cheese, bacon, American cheese and garlic aioli.

Fireside Grille in Middleboro, Massachusetts is a throwback restaurant that does things the way they're supposed to be done. Like their spicy, yet satisfying Buffalo Mac N Cheese.
