Hollywood Stars, Coast Guard Heroes Attend 'The Finest Hours' Premiere

BOSTON (CBS) - The premiere for "The Finest Hours" was held in Boston Thursday night.

Stars Casey Affleck and Chris Pine both attended. Alongside the heroes of Hollywood stood the unsung heroes of the Coast Guard.

"We are super thrilled," said Coast Guard Rear Admiral Linda Fagan.

The movie tells the real life story of an unbelievable Coast Guard rescue off Cape Cod in the early 1950's.

"Much simpler movie that tells a great story," said Affleck.

The film was shot in Quincy and Chatham. Affleck admitted his native Massachusetts status wasn't as impressive to the crew as he would have thought.

"I thought it was going to get a big reaction, but people just shrugged," said Affleck.

Chris Pine plays a Coast Guardsman heading into what is dubbed a suicide mission; four men in a 36-foot lifeboat battling the ocean during a nor'easter.

"Real people, real men in an age much different our own," said Pine.

Two of the Coast Guard members in attendance accomplished a rescue in similar conditions last year. They could see the reflection of themselves in the characters.

"We signed up knowing that we might not come back," said Coast Guard Officer Evan Staph.

"The emotion, the commitment is still there," said Coast Guard Officer Derek Suba.
