2 Men Recovering After RIPTA Bus Crash Into Warwick Building

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Two men are recovering after a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus crashed into a building in Warwick.

Warwick police say driver Richard Avedisian suffered a medical emergency that caused him to strike a telephone pole, veer across three lanes and crash into a commercial building Monday evening.

The 51-year-old Avedisian, of North Kingstown, and 21-year-old passenger Kyle Adams, of Providence, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Officials say both men are currently in fair condition.

A second passenger was treated for minor injuries and released. Police determined a third passenger wasn't injured.

Police are working to determine the cause of Avedisian's medical emergency. They don't believe alcohol or speeding were factors in the crash.

RIPTA is assisting police with the investigation.
