Mayor Walsh, Wynn Strike $1.7B Everett Casino Deal

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has struck a deal with casino mogul Steve Wynn over a $1.7 billion casino and hotel project in Everett that promises compensation to the city if it drops all legal efforts.

The Boston Globe reports the billionaire developer can go forward with his waterfront casino plans while Boston will receive an extra $6 million in payments.

Wynn will also contribute $25 million and the two entities have agreed to commit to traffic improvements at Sullivan Square.

The agreement was announced Wednesday.

Other new terms of the deal include Wynn paying Boston $750,000 to defray legal costs incurred during the lawsuit challenging the sale of state land. The city had put up $1.9 million in legal fees.

The casino is slated for a late 2018 opening.
