Travis Kelce Mocked Tom Brady Before Playoff Game; It Did Not Work Out For Him

By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- On Thursday, ESPN's Kevin Van Valkenburg wrote an in-depth, 5,000-word about Tom Brady, what makes him tick, and what he's currently accomplishing at age 38.

It's a captivating read that any Patriots fan -- and many football fans in other markets who happen to not get queasy at the sight of the Flying Elvis -- would enjoy.

And while the Patriots themselves, as well as most fans, are already "on to Denver," there was one fascinating tidbit in particular to come out of Van Valkenburg's story. Van Valkenburg detailed Tom Brady's entrance onto the field this past Saturday, when Jay-Z's "Public Service Announcement" blared over the Gillette Stadium PA as it always does. Brady ran to the corner of the field, where he always gets Pete Carroll levels of pumped and jacked before games.

That's when this happened:

Against the Chiefs, he trotted the length of the field slowly, knowing it might be his last chance to soak in the atmosphere of Gillette Stadium this season. When he reached the end zone, he roared, slashing the air with a vigorous punch. Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce, looking on from a few yards away, mocked Brady with a celebration of his own, punching the air and bobbing his head. Brady glanced at Kelce, acknowledging he had seen the gesture, but jogged away in a manner suggesting that lions do not concern themselves with the opinions of sheep.

It is a tremendous story, and fortunately for the world, it was captured on video and can be memorialized forever.

To be honest, if Kelce had ended up having a monster game, catching 11 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns in a stunning upset victory over the Patriots, then this video would be the genesis of The Legend Of Travis Kelce™, the man who stood toe-to-toe with Tom Freaking Brady.

But instead, Kelce caught six passes for 23 yards, and the Chiefs lost.

Brady threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for another score, as he picked up his 22nd postseason win, which is most all time among starting quarterbacks.
