Police Investigating Death Of 5-Week-Old Worcester Boy

WORCESTER (CBS) -- The death of a 5-week-old boy at a Worcester apartment late last month has sparked an investigation by police.

The boy was found dead inside a Green Hill Parkway apartment early in the morning on Dec. 27, 2015, court records indicate. That same day, police seized bedding and other items that may have been used to cause the infant's death.

The boy's parents told police he fell asleep around midnight, and about 4 1/2 hours later his father discovered that he was not breathing and there was some blood near his nose.

Investigators say the couple was distraught, and they told police that the child had been crying before they took the boy out of his crib to sleep with them and their young daughter on an air mattress. The family was in the process of moving, police say.

Court documents show pediatricians at UMass Memorial Medical Center believe the child was dead for several hours, adding that it didn't appear that there were any signs of trauma.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Police said an autopsy has been completed, but they haven't received the results yet.

The cause of death is being investigated by police.
