Elderly Man Attacked, Robbed In Methuen

METHUEN (CBS) – A 77-year-old man is recovering, after police say he was beaten and robbed getting out of his car.

Police say the elderly man was attacked Thursday at 8:30 p.m. as he made his way into an apartment complex off of Pelham St.

"He was kicked numerous times. He was kicked and punched – including a kick to the face. He suffered lacerations and numerous injuries," said Lt. Jim Jajuga Jr.

Lorry Nelson, the victim's friend and the apartment manager, says she didn't believe it when police knocked on her door.

"I've been here 30 years, never had any problems. Ever. For them to attack a senior, it really killed me last night. Unacceptable," Nelson said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, but sustained non-life threatening injuries.

"In my day you didn't do things like that. Especially (to the) elderly. You try to help them. Today they're looking for the elderly to go after them," said Nelson.

"It says they're desperate individuals, committing desperate, heinous acts. These are the type of people we want to get off the street as soon as possible," Lt. Jajuga Jr. said.
