Belmont Woman Hopes To Complete World Marathon Challenge

BELMONT (CBS) - Becca Pizzi of Belmont is about to go around the world in seven days stopping for just 12 hours on each continent to run the World Marathon Challenge.

If Pizzi completes all seven races in Antarctica, Chile, Miami, Madrid, Morocco, Dubai and Sydney, Australia, she'll be the first woman to do it.

Fourteen athletes from around the world begin this quest on January 23rd. Pizzi is not worried about becoming exhausted. To train, she's been running up to 100 miles a week but is now tapering off.

"I've been running since I was six years old, my father Fred inspired me to run and I love it and I love to travel and I love to run," Pizzi said. "I'm looking forward to the tests of endurance and strength."

Pizzi hopes to average just under four hours for each race and plans to make the seventh her fastest.

"It's going to be eat, sleep, run repeat," she says of the challenge.

Pizzi's sponsor, Belmont Savings Bank, held a sendoff party for her on Thursday and made a $1,000 donation to the Belmont Food Pantry.
