Hundreds Of Quincy Credit Union Accounts Reportedly Hacked

QUINCY (CBS) -- Hundreds of local bank customers at Quincy Credit Union have been hit by hackers. Quincy Credit Union temporarily suspended its customers' ATM cards Sunday after multiple people reported fraudulent charges.

The credit union posted to their Facebook page Sunday saying they are aware of the suspected breach and are investigating.

"I was trying to deposit a check and it wouldn't let me put it in, and I was trying to take out money and it wouldn't let me do it either," one customer told WBZ-TV's Jim Smith.

Quincy Credit Union president Stewart Steele told WBZ-TV an estimated 670 accounts were impacted. Steele said he believes skimmers may have been placed on the ATM machines. It's unclear how much money was taken.

"Hopefully they catch the person who's doing it and settle it ya know?" another customer told WBZ-TV. " I wanna check when I go home on the computer and see what's wrong  hopefully they catch the culprit and see what happens."

Some credit union workers spent most of Sunday working on the problem.

"It's scary because it's all your money," another credit union customer said. "Everyone's supposed to trust the bank."

Customers can report suspicious charges online or by phone.

In the meantime, the credit union plans to refund any fraudulent charges.
