Providence Nightclub Says 'Goodnight' To Children's Hospital With Flashing Lights
PROVIDENCE (CBS) -- A nightclub in Providence is taking a minute out of its day to say goodnight to some sick children.
The Hot Club faces Hasbro Children's Hospital, and a longtime hospital volunteer recently asked if the bar would consider flicking its bright neon sign on and off every Wednesday evening as a goodnight message to the young patients.
The club employees were more than willing to take part, and started flashing the Hot Club sign four times every night at 8:30 p.m. for one minute.
"It's a very small thing that we can do," Hot Club manager Sarah Bates told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
She says staff sets an alarm for 8:25 p.m. every night as a reminder, then they head outside. One employee stays inside to flick the lights, while everyone else goes out to see the kids flash their own lights in response.
"Everybody's really excited," she said. "We've had some people come in just to do that, people have brought their kids in to do it."
Reaction from inside the facility to the "Good Night Lights" has been hugely positive. Bates is hoping businesses on the other sides of the hospital do the same.
