'Star Wars'-Inspired Workout Comes To Boston Gym

BOSTON (CBS) -- With the release of "Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens" on Friday, it appears the love for light sabers can be found not only on the big screen but in a Boston gym too.

Gym goers can work up a sweat while wielding toy light sabers at Boston Sports Club on Boylston Street.

The "Awaken Your Inner Force" workout program kicked off this week, and it will run on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. except on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The next class is slated for Jan. 7.

Fitness instructor Cassie Brown says she choreographed the 45-minute circuit training class, which allows participants to swing the light sabers around and face one another as though they are doing battle.

The workout incorporates some martial arts, yoga moves and core strength training.

"It definitely gets your heart rate up higher," Brown says. "You're burning more calories because you're using more muscle groups."

Participants say the fun and challenging class forces you to work on your balance.

The class will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the club is asking participants to call ahead of time to save your spot.
